Kinder Morgan’s Vancouver  Wharves facility is a bulk marine terminal, strategically located east of the Lions Gate Bridge on the north shore of Burrard Inlet in Greater Vancouver’s Port Metro Vancouver.

In operation since 1959, the 129-acre terminal handles about three million tones of inbound and outbound cargo products annually.  The facility consists of five vessel berths capable of handling Panamax size vessels, with significant rail infrastructure, dry bulk and liquid storage, and material handling systems.  It has a storage capacity of one million tons of bulk cargo.

Vancouver Wharves handles mineral concentrates, sulphur, wood pellets, specialty agricultural products and distillates.  By revenue, concentrates and sulphur comprise the largest share, followed by wood pellets, agri -products, liquids and other commodities.

Since Kinder Morgan acquired Vancouver Wharves in 2007, it has invested $140 million to improve operating efficiency and environmental sustainability.  This includes environmental improvements to address historic contamination, a ten year remediation plan, installation of ground water containment and treatment system, as well as implementation of an ongoing monitoring and maintenance plan.  Assets (primarily rail car handling facilities) were relocated from the Pacific Environmental Center “PEC” Site.   Also completed was the installation of a new state-of-the-art Shiploader, upgraded material handling systems, dock enhancements, refurbished tanks to meet current regulations and addition of bio-diesel tanks.  A rail receiving and storage facility was added to handle ferrous granules.
